Abstract Metric transformation is a tool to find new theory of gravity beyond general relativity. The action guaranteed be free from the dangerous Ostrogradsky mode as long metric regular and invertible. Various degenerate higher-order scalar–tensor theories without extra degrees freedom have been found through with scalar field its derivatives. In this work, we examine how matter coupling changes degeneracy for generated Horndeski second derivative field, taking minimally coupled field.
